Eggs & Issues: The Jackson Laboratory: Leading the Search for Tomorrow's Cures
The Jackson Laboratory was founded more than 90 years ago in Bar Harbor to uncover the genetic basis of cancer and pioneered the use of mouse models for human disease. Today, JAX’s global expertise has expanded into nearly every disease area, including a National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center, aging, rare disease, the biology of addiction, and more. Employing more than 1,600 Maine-based employees in Bar Harbor, Ellsworth, and Augusta, JAX's impact to the State is widespread. In addition, JAX also has operations in Connecticut, California, and globally. In 2022, JAX received over $130M in external funding, invested in employee housing by opening a 24-unit housing complex, broke ground on a new childcare facility, continues to play a critical role in the COVID pandemic, and has brought global cancer expertise to nearly 2,000 Maine cancer patients through its Maine Cancer Genomics Initiative. Join us as we welcome JAX President & CEO Lon Cardon to share and discuss the growth of the global nonprofit biomedical institution, the scientific and economic impact of JAX, and the bright shining future of the biomedical industry in Maine. Join the Chamber to learn all about it at our January Eggs & Issues!
