Skip Bates, Director of Main Street Banking, Bangor Savings Bank
Skip has spent the past 13 years working with small businesses at Bangor Savings Bank in Bangor, Maine. Prior to Bangor Savings Bank, Skip worked at Bank of America for 12 years. Skip holds a Certificates in Banking and Leadership from the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking and the University of Pennsylvania, The Warton School respectively; a Master’s Degree in American Studies from Doshisha University, and a B.A. in English and Religion from Amherst College
Alexa Dayton, Chief Operating Officer, University of Maine Graduate & Professional Center
Alexa serves as Chief Operating Officer for the University of Maine Graduate and Professional Center, located in Portland Maine USA. Providing the critical linkages between University of Maine’s School Law, Policy and Business graduate programs and the Maine business community to advance economic growth and innovation through interdisciplinary education and community engagement. She has held senior positions at Gulf of Maine Research Institute, Maine Huts & Trails, L.L. Bean, MapInfo Corporation, and she has operated several of her own small businesses in Maine. Alexa holds a B.S. in Engineering from the University of Michigan, M.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of Southern Maine, and a Ph.D. in Marine Science, Policy and Resource Economics from the University of Maine.
Rebecca Gilbert, Program Coordinator, University of Maine Graduate & Professional Center
Rebecca Gilbert is the Program Manager at the University of Maine Graduate & Professional Center. She provides strategic support for Maine Center initiatives including professional education, entrepreneurship support, and interdisciplinary academic programming. She also manages the Maine Center Graduate Internship Program. Before joining the Maine Center, Rebecca was a facilitator and mediator, a U.S. Senate staffer, a fisheries researcher, and a field geologist.
Tom Rainey, Executive Director of Maine Center for Entrepreneurs
Thomas Rainey (Tom) is the Executive Director of the Maine Center for Entrepreneurs (MCE) based in Portland, Maine. MCE offers business incubator and accelerator programs including specialty programs for food, beverage, aquaculture and life science industry startups. Early in his career, Tom served as the Executive Director of a California World Trade Center and as Director of the first business incubator program in St. Louis, Missouri. Tom holds a Master's Degree in Science and Technology Policy from Lund University in Sweden; a Graduate Degree in International Studies from the University of Stockholm, Sweden; and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Washington University in St. Louis.
