GCSM is a trusted resource for immigrant, refugee, and asylee communities across Greater Portland and Lewiston-Auburn. Our team reflects the communities we serve—working to uplift, support, and build connections that foster belonging and resilience. Each year, we serve over 1,400 community members through programs that range from supporting youth and families at risk of homelessness to boosting academic achievement and promoting mental and physical wellness. We center our work on outcomes that are authentic and meaningful to each individual we serve.
Our Wellness Team supports whole-person and family health—physical and mental—through a community-based approach that meets clients where they are. Community Health Workers (CHWs) are trusted connectors who help people navigate care, understand insurance and safety net programs, and access essentials like housing and food. The team also provides workforce support, helping individuals identify employment opportunities, training, and certifications to build skills for stability and long-term wellbeing.
Our Leadership Program focus on developing the next generation of community leaders by building skills, fostering confidence, teamwork, and a commitment to community service through hands-on experiences. Participants of this program explore leadership through civic engagement, climate justice, and community leadership.
Our Community Program fosters connections, enhance well-being, and creates a supportive environment. We offer various resources, activities, and events that promote inclusiveness and empower individuals to thrive together. By collaborating with community members and organizations, we ensure our programs are relevant and impactful, strengthening local ties effectively.
GCSM is more than an organization—we’re a home, a resource, and a community.
